So, it's not exactly the most profound observation, and I'm far from the first to make it, but it's worth noting again: There isn't that much going on. plancast api 0.1

arrow 19 January by Jaymon general stuff

.format can only be "json"

we originally had "xml" support also but I didn't really want to support it after we had to change some of the json stuff. Xml support was no longer just as easy to do as json so I've removed it.

the id.format calls are not allowed in any call (eg, /plans/user_timeline/id.format) because it's harder to maintain when there are multiple ways to do the same thing, and the id is ambiguous anyway.

the base for all api calls is: http://api.plancast.com/01, so if you want to call the user timeline you would do: http://api.plancast.com/01/plans/user_timeline.json

we're versioning the api so we can go up to 0.2, 0.3 etc. without worrying about backwards compatibility breaking. This will also allow us to radically change the api without breaking everything at once.

for authentication, we're doing http auth basic. We know we're going to take a lot of flack for this, but this is one of those get it out quick and make it easy scenarios, and OAuth does neither of those. The other http-auth problem we have is not everyone has a username/password combination since they sign in with facebook or twitter. The only other solution would be to assign everyone a key that they can use to access the api, but that makes it hard to use with a mobile app since copying and pasting a ~20 character random number/letter key is a little annoying to say the least.

version 0.2 is earmarked for OAuth support. I think we'll handle mobile OAuth how sites like Foursquare and Twitter are doing it by setting username and password in a header, the idea is that you trust the application to have your username/password because you installed the app, websites will use the normal Oauth 1.0a spec.

arrow 19 January by Jaymon call: /plans/user_timeline.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-statuses-user_timeline

supported params:
user_id
screen_name
page
page_offset - this is returned in the results as "next_page_offset"

arrow 19 January by Jaymon call: /plans/home_timeline.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-statuses-home_timeline

we're not going to bother with friends_timeline since Twitter wants to deprecate it: http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-statuses-friends_timeline

supported params:
count
page
page_offset - this is returned in the results as "next_page_offset"

arrow 20 January by Jaymon call: /plans/show.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-statuses%C2%A0show

the twitter docs say to make the call this way: /statuses/show/id.format but I want to keep it consistent, and you can call twitter with ?id=... also.

method: GET
auth: FALSE
params:
attendance_id or plan_id - REQUIRED

arrow 20 January by Jaymon call: /plans/update.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-statuses%C2%A0update
method: POST
authentication: true
params:
what
when
where
place_id - the place_id that is returned from plans/parse_where.format
plan_id <- TBI
syndicate_twitter - 1 if the plan should be pushed to Twitter
syndicate_facebook - 1 if the plan should be pushed to Facebook

you have to call this with either: what, when, where params set, or with status param set.

todo: add plan_id, so if plan_id is set the plan found at plan_id will be updated with the latest "what, when, where" information

arrow 20 January by Jaymon call: /plans/destroy.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-statuses%C2%A0destroy

method: POST
auth: TRUE
params:
attendance_id or plan_id - REQUIRED (one or the other) - if plan_id then the authenticated user's attendance for the plan will be cancelled, if attendance_id then that specific attendance_id will be cancelled

arrow 20 January by Jaymon call: /users/show.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-users%C2%A0show

params:
user_id
screen_name

you need either user_id or screen_name, but not both. We don't support id because it is ambiguous.

arrow 17 February by Jaymon call: /account/verify_credentials.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-REST-API-Method%3A-account%C2%A0verify_credentials

verifies the authenticating user's creds

arrow 24 February by Jaymon call: /plans/parse_when.format

it's a GET request and you do have to validate

params:
when

returns an object with: when_str, when_start, when_stop set

arrow 24 February by Jaymon call: /plans/parse_where.format

it's a GET request and you do have to validate

params:
where

returns a list with objects that have an address key set

arrow 27 February by Jaymon call: /plans/attend.format

arrow 4 March by Jaymon call: /plans/search.format

http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-Search-API-Method%3A-search

method: GET
auth: false
params:
q - REQUIRED - the query string

right now there is no support for pagination, and we only return the top 15 results. I imagine both those things will change in the future.
